Girls' Trip to Hocking Hills

Hocking Hills has become one of the go-to girls' trip destinations in the Midwest, and it's easy to see why. Secluded cabins with hot tubs, a growing wine trail, spa services delivered to your door, and just enough adventure to make it more than a lounging weekend. Here's how to plan one.

Where to Stay

The cabin is the centerpiece. For groups of 4-8, look for a multi-bedroom cabin or lodge with a hot tub, fire pit, full kitchen, and a game room or gathering space. Properties on 5+ acres give you privacy. Some cabin companies have multiple units on shared acreage — perfect for larger groups who want their own space but still want to be close enough to gather.

For an elevated experience, Glenlaurel's Scottish Inn offers adults-only stays with multi-course candlelit dinners and couples/group massage packages. Raven's Retreat runs curated group wellness retreats on their 58-acre private preserve.

Wine Trail Day

Build a day around the region's wineries: start at Le Petit Chevalier (rolling pastures, sheep, French countryside vibes), then Hocking Hills Winery (wood-fired pizza, patio with live music on weekends), then RockSide Winery or Manchester Hill Winery. End at Brewery 33 if the group swings both ways on wine vs. beer.

Cork & Tap Excursions provides a driver and customizable tasting tours — no designated driver needed on the winding hill roads.

Spa & Wellness

Several providers offer in-cabin massage and spa services — they come to you. Book in advance, especially for weekend trips. The Spa at Cedar Falls is the region's most established spa facility if you'd rather go to them. Sauna pods are available at some cabin properties.

Activities

Hiking: Ash Cave (easy, dramatic, great group photos) and Cedar Falls (moderate, best waterfall) are the crowd favorites. Go early to beat tourist crowds and get unobstructed photos.

Glass-blowing: Jack Pine Studio offers classes where everyone makes their own piece. Great souvenir.

Ziplines: Hocking Hills Canopy Tours — the Original Canopy Tour is 2.5-3 hours through the treetops. Group rates available weekdays.

Horseback riding: Guided rides through forest and creek terrain. Book through local outfitters by appointment.

Stargazing: JGAP on a clear night is surprisingly fun with a group — blankets, wine (consumed before you arrive), and the Milky Way.

Dining

Kindred Spirits at Cedar Falls is the nicest sit-down dinner — seats 45, reservations essential. 58 West is the most versatile group option. For a casual night in, order pizza delivery from Little Italy or Pizza Crossing, cook at the cabin, and save the restaurant for one special night out.

Group trip formula: Friday: arrive, unpack, hot tub, fire pit, wine. Saturday morning: one hike (Ash Cave + Cedar Falls). Saturday afternoon: winery tour or spa. Saturday night: nice dinner out or cook together. Sunday: glass-blowing class or Nelsonville shopping, then home. Done.
