Hocking Hills is the canopy tour capital of the Midwest, with more than 60 ziplines and a growing roster of climbing, rappelling, and adventure activities. If hiking isn't enough adrenaline, here's what's available.
Ziplines
Hocking Hills Canopy Tours
The original — operating since 2007, nationally recognized, and still the gold standard. Located in Rockbridge, near the state park. Multiple tour options:
Original Canopy Tour: 2.5-3 hours, 10+ ziplines through the tree canopy over caves, cliffs, and the Hocking River. Heights up to 70 feet. The signature experience. Weekday rates around $89-99, weekends $99-109.
X-Tour: 2.5-3 hours, 11 ziplines on a cross-country hybrid course using trees and towers. Sails above rolling hills, into a hidden recess cave, and crosses the Hocking River twice. $109 weekday, $129 weekend.
SuperZip: Over a quarter mile long, speeds up to 50 mph. Included in "Top 10 Amazing Zip Lines in the World." Can be added to other tours or booked standalone.
Dragonfly: Designed for kids ages 5-12. Continuous belay safety system keeps kids attached to the cable 100% of the time. Parents watch from below.
Discovery Tours: Shorter introductory experiences for those who want the zipline thrill with less time commitment.
Requirements: Minimum age 10 for main tours (5 for Dragonfly). Weight limits 70-250 lbs. All participants weighed at check-in. Closed-toe shoes required. Operates in rain. 7-day cancellation policy.
Discounts: Local resident discounts (Monday-Thursday, proof of residency). Group rates available weekdays. Military discounts — call the office. Weekday tours are cheaper across the board.
Ultimate Zipline Adventures
Offers two zipline courses plus three paintball courses and a scenic disc golf course. A good option if your group wants variety beyond just zipping.
Valley Zipline Tours
Located in the Hocking Hills foothills on a working farm. Combines ziplining with conservation education. A more intimate, farm-based experience.
Rock Climbing & Rappelling
High Rock Adventures (Hocking Hills Ecotours) operates on private property with natural sandstone cliffs ranging from 35 to over 70 feet. All equipment provided, no experience necessary.
Rappelling: Three types — flat wall, canyon, and large overhang. Rappels from 35 to nearly 100 feet. Less physically demanding than climbing but no less exciting. 2.5-3 hours.
Rock Climbing: Average 3 climbs or attempts at 35-70+ feet depending on group ability. All equipment provided. Expert guides trained and certified by the American Mountain Guide Association (AMGA). 2.5-3 hours.
Rock Challenge Tours: Unique to the Hocking Hills — squeezes, crawls, bouldering, ascents, and descents without harnessed climbing. Think obstacle course built by geology. Great for groups and families.
Eco-Nature Tours: Guided hikes showcasing geology, history, edible and medicinal plants, plus some rock obstacles. A mellower option that combines education with light adventure.
The Hocking State Forest Rock Climbing and Rappelling Area — nearly 100 acres east of Conkle's Hollow — is open to climbers with their own gear. No guide service operates there; it's self-service for experienced climbers.
